Where we are
Grosmont is to be found in the centre of the triangle marked by the three towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Hereford. This area, part of the Welsh Marches, is the border country between Wales and England. Gentle Jane is in Grosmont in the ancient county of Monmouthshire. The county town is Monmouth and is named from where the River Monnow has its mouth into the River Usk. Grosmont sits on the edge of a short escarpment overlooking the Monnow where the high ground on which the castle is built dominates the border with England. The border is marked here by the river Monnow. Today the English are more welcome in Grosmont than they used to be. When you get to Grosmont, between the Townhall and the Postoffice on the right side of the road, you will find Gentle Jane Tea Room and B&B where everyone is welcome.

Access by Road
From Hereford take the A465 south in the direction of Abergavenny. Turn left onto the B4347 at Pontrilas and follow the road towards Kentchurch. Just after the Bridge Inn on your right the road bears sharp right over the Monnow bridge and crosses from England into Wales. Continue up the hill to Grosmont and Gentle Jane is lower down the village on your right.
Coming from Abergavenny take the A465 northwards towards Hereford. At Llanvihangel Crucorney you will see the bulk of the Skirrid Mountain on your right and Llanthony and the Skirrid Inn signposted to your left. Turn right onto the minor road signposted to Grosmont and follow it for five miles to a junction on the right where a white house stands on the corner. Turn right here and go downhill into the village, turning right at the road junction by the old schoolhouse. Gentle Jane is on your right just after the town hall and the pub and just before the post office.
From the M4 in the south to the A449 northwards to the A40 (you won’t notice the transition between the A449 and the A40) and continue to Monmouth. At Monmouth take the first exit off the dual carriageway immediately after going through the road tunnel. Follow the B4233 to Rockfield bearing right onto the B4347 at a fork. Pass through Newcastle to reach, eventually, the staggered crossroads with the B4521. Go right and immediately left to continue on the B4347 all the way to Grosmont. Gentle Jane is on the left as you come into the village.
From the north east come on the M50 towards Ross on Wye and continue briefly on the A40. Take the third turning off a roundabout onto the A49 signposted to Hereford. Pass through Peterstow and then take the B4521 on your left signposted to Abergavenny. Continue along the B4521 crossing first the A4137 and then the A446 and pass through Broad Oak to arrive at Skenfrith where you will cross the Monnow from England into Wales. Pass the Bell Inn on your left and after a mile turn right onto the B4347 and follow the road for five miles to Grosmont. Gentle Jane is next to the post office on your left.
